a thought: a blessing (sleep well my darling)

may the stars above kiss you good night
though i lay awake and of you i miss
may the blankets cover you and hold you in tight
as i lay awake and of you i miss

may every waking hour
every falling day
every passing shadow
it take your breath away

though not so much to hurt
only enough to chill
that rather than time, together,
indifference is all we kill

and like a lion we shake the prey
and take from passions fountain
and hand in hand we crawl up
the slopes of life's cruel mountain

where atop its cliff where the sun lays it head
we receive our wings sprung out of gold
and fly on them up where heaven is
to rest in its manifold

to fly among the chosen
to die among men like angels
to ever cry no more
to sleep in peace
and in its clutches,
 rest forevermore
